The former Massachusetts governor convincingly won all three primary contests on Tuesday with 98 delegates at stake — Wisconsin, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

But instead of acknowledging his GOP rivals — as he has always done on previous primary nights — Romney focused his 13-minute address on declaring President Barack Obama an out-of-touch elitist as he sought to frame the general election around his economic message.

Romney’s rhetoric sought to paint Obama as an aloof excuse maker who is dodging responsibility for gas prices and a sour economy. The president, Romney said, has an overinflated sense of his own success based on being cocooned in a bubble of admirers.

“It’s enough to make you think that years of flying around on Air Force One, surrounded by an adoring staff of true believers telling you what a great job you are doing, well, that might be enough to make you a little out of touch,” Romney said.

Och president Obama verkar ha anammat exakt samma strategi. Carrie Budoff Brown rapporterar:

President Barack Obama jumped fully into the 2012 race Tuesday, naming his likely Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, for the first time in an official presidential speech that accused the Republican establishment of embracing polices that threaten the middle class and economic fairness.

In an election-year appeal to middle-class voters, Obama shredded the spending plan written by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, backed by Romney and supported by the House Republican caucus as a “Trojan horse” built around radical right-wing and “thinly veiled social Darwinism.”

“Instead of moderating their views even slightly, the Republicans running Congress right now have doubled down,” Obama said at The Associated Press luncheon. “They’re proposed a budget so far to the right that it makes the Contract With America look like the New Deal.”

I juni kom dessutom den två timmar långa dokumentärfilmen ”The Undefeated”.

Though the timing of Palin’s announcement was a surprise, GOP operatives have long expected her to pass on a 2012 race. She did not build an infrastructure that could have been used as the foundation for a campaign, her political action committee did little to build a staff and she remained on the Fox News payroll as a contributor while 2012 candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich saw their contracts terminated.
